The House Psychologist

This is one of several titles given to me by clients while working with them for staging and design. I honestly have to say it is probably the one I like the most given my degree. 😊 All that is involved in both preparing a home to go on the market or creating a design plan for a client to live in, day in and day out, requires much more than decorating and picking out colors.

When businesses are trying to launch and sell a product, much research goes into finding out who the consumer will be. What captures their interest? What appeals to the consumer the most? What are the challenges? How do you make the product the most marketable and successful? All these things apply when selling a house or designing a space. When selling a house the consumers are all buyers. When designing a space the consumer is you, the home owner. And that is just step one.

When Selling Your House is A Product

While working with clients and creating a plan on how to stage their listing we must see the product in the mind of the consumer. The way you live in your home and sell your home are 2 totally different things and as professional home stagers, we can see what the buyers will see, first on-line and then in person. What is the position and angle of the furnishings and décor: will the buyer’s eyes be focused on the house and the features and characteristics or will they only notice the accent chair and the competing accent color in the room?

We look at listings online all day every day and WE LOVE IT! But we are often saddened when we see beautiful spaces with so much opportunity to capture the features of the home, but they are missed by a simple tweak that would have captured the whole product being sold. The professional photos are exceptional but oops, you brought them right to the wrong thing!

The way we live in our kitchen is not the best way to highlight its features.

Selling Your Biggest Asset

A house psychologist must assess the home and everything that goes with it. Angles, colors, space, flow, texture, senses are just a few of all things needing to be considered when selling one of your biggest assets. Professional home stagers are not just decorating and rearranging things, we are looking at the whole picture and what all is involved to create a successful and profitable product.
