Staging Tips for Selling in the Summer

In some ways, summer is a great time to sell because many families are making a move. Also, depending on where you live, you do not have to worry about snow and other bad weather. But summer does come with its own challenges that are important to address when selling in the summer.

Pollen

Oh, the pollen. What a pain to your nose and to your outdoor spaces. When your house is on the market, it is important that you remove that fine yellow sheen from all your outdoor spaces and furniture. The ultimate goal is to get potential buyers thinking about how much fun it will be to use your outdoor space instead of dreading all the maintenance.

Rain and Wind = Dirty windows

Longer days mean more sun shining through windows. This is a great thing because it makes spaces feel larger and light is a huge selling point for most buyers. That is why it is important to keep your windows clean. If a thunderstorm rolls through, you may have to touch up the windows more than you would in the winter.

 Bugs and Other Pests

With warmer weather comes all the pests. While on the market, regularly check for wasp nests, anthills, spiders, and other warm-weather invaders. If you do not already treat for these pests, consider preventative maintenance to minimize the impact and work for you as the weather warms up.

Don’t Neglect Your Yard

When buyers are looking at your listing the last thing they want is to walk on crunchy, dead grass. Fill-in any dead spots with grass seed and keep your yard watered and mowed. Trim your bushes, pull all weeds, and put out fresh mulch in your flower beds. Strategically placed flowers and plants in pots are great as long as they are well cared for. It is better have no potted plants than to have scraggily looking plants.

Comfortable Temperature Indoors

Now is not the time to save on utilities. Ensure that your house is at a comfortable temperature. I would also recommend lowering the temperature as you would for a party or larger gathering because there will be multiple people walking through at the same time, which always warms up a space. If buyers are uncomfortable, they may think that there is an issue or reduce the amount they are willing to offer for your listing.

 Outdoor Spaces

Now more than ever, buyers are looking for how they can use the outdoor spaces. Setting the scene with fire pits, games, string lights, dining areas, and of course, lounging furniture are all great ways to stand out against the competition. This will get the buyers dreaming about the new possibilities with your listing and drive them to make an offer.
